Re-Tuning: If your Handpan goes out of tune, we can arrange for retuning. Scratches: You may find minor “scratches” on the surface that were formed by the hammers used in production. Each instrument is handcrafted and is hit with hundreds of hammer strokes. Every shell varies and each one will have its own unique markings. Scratches will not affect the sound of the instrument. Temperature and Storage: Do not store your handpan for prolonged periods in a hot/humid place or leave it in a vehicle. Short exposure to cold and hot temperatures will not have an effect on the instrument. The best place to store your handpan is in its hardcase and ensure that it remains dry. Cleaning and Rust Prevention: Your location will impact how often you need to use the included oil on your handpan. If you live in a humid climate, you may need to use the oil more frequently than in a drier climate. Humidity, salty air, skin oil, and the acidity of sweat can cause rust on the surface. Professional oil was created specifically for our unique metal. Sonic Resonance Handpan uses heat treated steel (nitrided) to help prevent rust. Put about 10 drops of the oil on the handpan and wipe it all over the surface with a dry cloth or multipurpose paper. If you play your handpan often, clean it 1-2 times a month.

About the Author

Katia de Peyer’s first book Dancing with MySelf, Sensuous Exercises for Body, Mind and Spirit (Nucleus Publications, 1991; La Source Press, 2026) introduced her method of inner-centering through movement, hailed by Diane von Furstenberg as a whole new attitude about exercising. Her second book Enjoy Your Healing Power (La Source Press, 2025) is an intuitive, helpful guide for developing our healing power.  A ballet dancer born in Paris who lived in Spain to further her studies in flamenco, Katia moved to New York in the late sixties to start a successful career as a personal trainer. There she met the virtuoso clarinettist Gervase de Peyer in 1976.  She and Gervase married in 1980 and lived for two decades in the US and then in the UK until Gervase’s death in 2017.  Katia continues her work as a writer and healer in London and New York.
