97610 Can Crusher, 16-Ounce

Katia de Peyer $ 4.40
I got this can crusher, because I have been crushing them with my feet for at least 10 years. My back isn’t what it used to be, so finding a good can crusher was definitely in my ‘list of things to do’. I chose this one because the price was pretty reasonable, and it had O.K. reviews. I ordered this through amazon prime, and it came a day early which was BIG plus considering I have been anticipating its arrival. It came with the 4 mounting screws. If mounting this (which you will probably have to in order to use it efficiently), you will need to first drill the holes for the screws, then the screws will go in easily. If you don’t do it this way you will more than likely strip the screws. After mounted, the black part (with the handle attached) felt flimsy with a lot of play. After crushing a few cans however, it did not seem to affect the performance. I crushed two trash bags full of 16 and 12 oz cans pretty quickly, and it is still holding up. I am guessing this flimsy design is meant to be that way, maybe to cause “flex” in the crusher. Other than that, I don’t know why it is made so flimsy. I did notice also that it squeaked and the hinges felt stiff, like it needed oil. I added some WD-40 to all the hinges, and it is a WHOLE LOT smoother and quieter. Overall, I give it 4 stars for not breaking on me, and arriving super fast. Buy it if you recycle cans, I’m sure it will pay for itself in the long run.

About the Author

Katia de Peyer’s first book Dancing with MySelf, Sensuous Exercises for Body, Mind and Spirit (Nucleus Publications, 1991; La Source Press, 2026) introduced her method of inner-centering through movement, hailed by Diane von Furstenberg as a whole new attitude about exercising. Her second book Enjoy Your Healing Power (La Source Press, 2025) is an intuitive, helpful guide for developing our healing power.  A ballet dancer born in Paris who lived in Spain to further her studies in flamenco, Katia moved to New York in the late sixties to start a successful career as a personal trainer. There she met the virtuoso clarinettist Gervase de Peyer in 1976.  She and Gervase married in 1980 and lived for two decades in the US and then in the UK until Gervase’s death in 2017.  Katia continues her work as a writer and healer in London and New York.
