I have a 50A inlet box wired to the house to support future power upgrades, but currently have a generator with a 30A outlet. I had used a straight through single piece outlet adapter, but the weight of the 50A plug and cable caused a good amount of sag and I was concerned it would eventually damage the outlet on the generator from constant vibration while running. This is a handy alternative to provide the same conversion, but the short cable allows the 50A end to be supported by something and not affect the 30A plug connection to minimize potential damage to the generator outlet, especially due to the vibration when running. Construction quality of the plug and socket seem good and the cable is also quite thick but still relatively flexible. The actual cable length is 11 inches and from the tip of the 30A plug to the center of the 50A socket is 18 inches, so it kind of qualifies as a 1.5 foot cable. The plug end has a plastic cover over the exposed prongs to protect them when not in use and my DMM measured 0.0 ohms resistance on all conductors, so hopefully it should have no issues carrying up to the 30A max current through the 10 AWG conductors.

About the Author

Katia de Peyer’s first book Dancing with MySelf, Sensuous Exercises for Body, Mind and Spirit (Nucleus Publications, 1991; La Source Press, 2026) introduced her method of inner-centering through movement, hailed by Diane von Furstenberg as a whole new attitude about exercising. Her second book Enjoy Your Healing Power (La Source Press, 2025) is an intuitive, helpful guide for developing our healing power.  A ballet dancer born in Paris who lived in Spain to further her studies in flamenco, Katia moved to New York in the late sixties to start a successful career as a personal trainer. There she met the virtuoso clarinettist Gervase de Peyer in 1976.  She and Gervase married in 1980 and lived for two decades in the US and then in the UK until Gervase’s death in 2017.  Katia continues her work as a writer and healer in London and New York.
