I don’t have a Dyson… I just like to test power supplies for various electronics projects. 30 V is fairly rare, so I jumped on this one. If you load it less than 1.1 A, it can look like a regular power supply, reasonably constant regulated voltage.See plots 1 and 2 which show output voltage as the load current is varied. Above about 1.1 A, the supply voltage collapses rapidly, and basically the supply shuts down.Plot 3 shows behavior near 1.1 A load current in more detail. For my unit 1.09 A produced the normal 30 V, but asking for 1.095 A pretty much shut the supply down. This implied to me that the supply is more of a constant current source, which might be because it’s basically a battery charger.Plot 4 shows what happens if you try to ‘tug down’ the voltage with a constant voltage load. Full current (about 1.1 A) is supplied up to about 30.3 V, and above that, current ramps down until you hit about 30.54 V. Plot 5 shows, though, that if you try to pull voltage below about 11 V, the supply shuts down.Plot 6 shows the supply working into something like the most challenging load for 2 hours. The output current forced into a 30 V fixed load shows well under 1% variation over the time span, and continuous operation without overheating or shutting down. So, this may not be as general purpose as I was hoping, but for a very modest price, this supply can output 33 W or so continuously, and seems like it should perform well in the intended application. About the Author

Katia de Peyer’s first book Dancing with MySelf, Sensuous Exercises for Body, Mind and Spirit (Nucleus Publications, 1991; La Source Press, 2026) introduced her method of inner-centering through movement, hailed by Diane von Furstenberg as a whole new attitude about exercising. Her second book Enjoy Your Healing Power (La Source Press, 2025) is an intuitive, helpful guide for developing our healing power.  A ballet dancer born in Paris who lived in Spain to further her studies in flamenco, Katia moved to New York in the late sixties to start a successful career as a personal trainer. There she met the virtuoso clarinettist Gervase de Peyer in 1976.  She and Gervase married in 1980 and lived for two decades in the US and then in the UK until Gervase’s death in 2017.  Katia continues her work as a writer and healer in London and New York.
